Frictio: App Blocker & Focus

Your phone is winning. Frictio turns it around. Pick the apps that eat your day and give them a daily limit. Once it's used up, Frictio locks them. Still want in? Then you pay, but not with money: with a real task. HOW IT WORKS • Pick your apps and a daily limit from 5 minutes to 6 hours • When time's up, the apps lock, even when Frictio is closed (on Android through Frictio's accessibility service, see below) • Open one anyway and Frictio names the price, for example 15 push-ups • Do it and the app opens for a few minutes. So it never becomes routine. AN ALARM WITH A TASK Frictio's alarm only stops once you've done your morning task. Get up first, then scroll. SEE YOUR PROGRESS Your streak, how often the lock stopped you, how often you held out. Widgets for your home screen. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • The camera counts on your device. No image is ever stored or sent • Which apps you lock stays on your phone • No ads, no tracking ACCESSIBILITY SERVICE (AccessibilityService API) Frictio uses Android's AccessibilityService API for one feature only: the app lock. Once you switch on the accessibility service "Frictio lock" in Android's settings, it tells Frictio which app has just come to the front of your screen. If it is one of the apps you picked and your daily limit (or the time you bought back with a task) is used up, Frictio shows its lock screen over that app. "Not worth it" or Back takes you to your home screen, "Do the task" opens Frictio. What it does not do: the service has no access to what is on your screen. Frictio never reads text, messages, passwords or what you type, keeps no history of the apps you open, does not change your settings and never stops you from switching anything off or uninstalling an app. Settings, the Play Store, your phone app and your home screen can't be locked. Which app opened is checked only on your phone and is never sent to us or anyone else. Before Android's settings open, Frictio explains the service in the app and asks for your consent. You can switch it off at any time in Settings > Accessibility > Frictio lock; the lock then stops working. Frictio also uses usage access, only to count how long your picked apps were open today.
