Novel planner: scene cards, a timeline on your own calendar, write and export
Corkline is a story planner for novels and long fiction: plan each chapter as scene cards pinned on a corkboard, then write the text inside every card. ▶ A TIMELINE ON YOUR STORY'S OWN CALENDAR • Give a scene a story date and the Timeline lists every scene in story order, with the time between them (for example "+3 d 2 h"). • Use the Gregorian calendar or build your own: 1 to 30 named months of 1 to 1,000 days, 1 to 100 hours a day and your own year label. Years can be zero or negative. • Up to 3 calendars and 6 timeline tracks per project, each track dated on one of your calendars — for example Earth and Colony. • A scene whose story time is earlier than a scene before it in reading order is marked, so you can see every flashback at a glance. • Rows are never folded into a summary; scenes without a date are listed under Undated. ▶ IDEAS ONTO CARDS IN SECONDS • Tap +, type a scene idea and press Enter: the card is pinned and the box is ready for the next idea. • Paste a list and choose "Make N cards": one card per line, list markers removed. • Import text: paste a manuscript or open a .txt or .md file. Chapters start at "# Title" lines, scenes at "## Title" lines or at break lines (***, * * *, ---). "Chapter 1" lines can count as chapters too. • A preview shows chapters, scenes and counts before anything is saved. ▶ THE CORKBOARD • Chapter tabs (Chapter, Act or Episode, depending on the project type) with a check mark on finished chapters. • Each card shows title, summary, point of view, status (Idea, Outline, Draft, Revised, Done), colour and a count / target bar. • Long-press a card to drag it to a new place or onto another chapter tab, or use Move…. Undo and Redo cover every structure change. • A side drawer for characters and places, with your own extra fields. Drag a name onto a card to add it to that scene. ▶ STRUCTURE • Three-act, Hero's Journey (12 stages), a 15-beat screenplay outline, Kishōtenketsu (4 parts) or your own beats. • Attach scenes to beats and see where each one really falls in the story, in percent. ▶ WRITE • A full-screen editor for each scene: serif or sans, four text sizes, light or dark. • Saves as you type; going back or leaving the app saves at once. Up to 10 earlier versions of each scene are kept, within 2 MB per scene. • Live count in words or characters; each Chinese or Japanese character counts as one word. Optional daily goal with a streak. • Find & replace in a scene, split a scene at the cursor, and search across all projects. ▶ EXPORT AND BACKUP • DOCX, Markdown, plain text or a scene outline, for the whole project or selected chapters. Each file is checked before it is shared. • A backup file of one project or all projects, kept where you choose. Restoring shows a preview first; newer texts win scene by scene, and when both sides changed, both are kept. ▶ GOOD TO KNOW • Your writing is stored in the app on this phone and the app uploads none of it. A reinstall or a new phone starts empty unless you restore a backup file, so back up regularly. • Nothing to sign in to. • Limits: 200,000 characters per scene, 500 scenes per chapter, 200 chapters per project. • Thai, Lao, Khmer and Myanmar text is counted per space-separated phrase in word mode; switch to characters for an exact count. • Ads appear on the Projects screen only: a banner, and sometimes a full-screen ad. Never on the board, timeline, structure or editor.
