Sun path and shadow cast from buildings, for any time of day and season.
SunArc puts the sun's path on the map for your location and shows shadows from buildings, trees or objects you place, for any time of day and any season.
Will your solar panels still get enough sun in winter? Will that tree block the afternoon sun from your kitchen window? Or when will your terrace finally be in the shade?
SUN PATH
• A translucent band traces the sun's path across your map, from sunrise to sunset
• Where the sun is now, and every hour along today's path
• Sunrise and sunset positions for your spot or any other in the world
• Rotates with the map, or locks to your compass heading
• Calculated on your device only
SHADOW CAST
• Shadows cast by real buildings around you, and objects you place
• Move through the day, or jump to midsummer or midwinter
• Place objects and resize them to their real dimensions
• Elevate your position to check for shadow on buildings or objects
BUILT FOR THE QUESTIONS THAT ACTUALLY COME UP
• Solar panels: will the roof still get enough sun in winter, once the sun sits low
• Gardens and trees: how far a tree's shadow reaches at different times of year, before you plant
• Terraces and balconies: when your terrace clears the neighbour's building
• Home buying and renting: a property's real light and shade before you commit
• Camping and photography: sunrise, sunset and shade cover for a spot before you're standing in it
• Gardening and growing: match beds and pots to how much real daily sun a spot gets, season by season
HOW ACCURATE IS IT
Sun position comes from standard solar-position math for your exact location and time. Building shadows use real height data from map tiles. Buildings without usable height data are skipped rather than guessed at. It's a solid tool for planning and scouting, not a substitute for a certified site survey.
PLANNING SOLAR PANELS
Switch the season control to midwinter and set the floor level to the roof or balcony you're considering. That's the worst-case sun angle it will ever see. Partial shade cuts panel output more than its size suggests, so this is a fast way to rule a spot out, or confirm it, before you commit to an installer's quote.
Useful for photographers, hikers, home buyers, balcony owners, campers, gardeners, beach lovers, future solar power heroes and vitamin D hunters.
