What's newin version 1.2.1
New: add single Markdown files from anywhere to the widget (Settings → Extra Notes → Add File). Removing one only takes it off the widget, the file stays on your device. Fixed: after picking a different notes folder, the widget kept showing the old folder until a manual refresh. Settings now have a "Rate on Google Play" link.
About this app
Markdown notes from any folder or Obsidian vault, right on your home screen.
A notes widget that puts your Markdown notes on the home screen. Pick a folder of plain .md files, an Obsidian vault or any other folder, and your notes show up as cards or a compact list without opening an app. The folder is read through Android's own file picker, so your notes stay in a format any app can open. OBSIDIAN WIDGET, WITH OR WITHOUT OBSIDIAN Built with Obsidian users in mind, but you don't need it installed. Any app that writes plain Markdown files to a folder works the same way. Tap a note to open it in Obsidian or your default Markdown app, or let Android ask every time. TWO MARKDOWN WIDGET STYLES Cards show a rendered Markdown preview with headings, links, lists, checkboxes and strikethrough. The compact list shows only note titles, so more of them fit on screen. Use either one, or both. MAKE IT YOURS Set the height, text size and colour of each note. Drag notes to reorder them. Swipe a card aside to delete the file. The delete is real and there is no trash, so the app asks first. GIT SYNC STATUS ON YOUR HOME SCREEN If your notes folder is a git repository, a small chip shows the last commit, a stuck merge or unpushed work. It works the same with Obsidian Git, Git Sync or plain command-line git. Nothing else on your phone tells you when sync quietly stopped. Without a git repo, the chip shows when a note last changed. QUICK CAPTURE A second button adds a line to one file you choose, for when you need to write something down before you forget it. You don't have to open the full note. YOUR NOTES STAY YOURS The app doesn't copy, convert or upload your notes. It reads the files you already have, where they are. This build includes optional, anonymous crash reporting and usage analytics to help find bugs. Both stay off unless you turn them on at first launch, and you can switch them off any time in settings. Note contents, file names and folder paths are never collected. Full privacy policy: https://folmbuild.cz/notes-widget-privacy/ Want a build with no network permission at all? A separate "foss" build is on GitHub and coming to F-Droid soon. It's the same app without Firebase, so there is nothing in it to opt out of. Notes Widget for Markdown is open source, GPL-3.0: https://github.com/marfolog/notes-widget-for-markdown Requires Android 11 or newer.
